(…) Many definitions are given to him – “naivist”, “primitivist” or “fighter against kitsch” – all of them equally inaccurate. Because Rumen Gasharov uses the techniques of naivism in order to depict the urban tastelessness, not to reject or humiliate it, but rather to wink at us and to build a really professional art on its grounds.

For the artist the collision between elite art and folk produces energy which he endeavors to seize and reproduce.
